By breaking a segregationist's filibuster record, Senator Cory Booker stepped into Chuck Schumer's moral vacuum to become the moral leader of the opposition
I’m glad you called out the major networks for not covering it better. And even so, 10s of thousands found ways to listen for hours and hours. I hope someone takes that filibuster and publishes it as a key American history book that will live on and never to be banned or burned. He defined us in the brightest light, calling us all to be braver and do MORE!
Thank you, Joy for your insights. Let us hope that Schumer has seen the light and will do right thing and resign his position as Minority Leader, and endorse Cory Booker.
I stayed home all day to witness Senator Booker's floor speech. The night before I sent an email to his staff to let them know the CSPAN channel will be on all night. I did fall asleep but awoke around 7am. I continued to watch this great American speak from his heart from the floor of the Senate. Do people realize how brilliant he is ? What a format. Taking questions from fellow Senators was so engaging. Reading emails from people who told theirs fears to the Senator. I do not know what this did for people . For me , it showed that there are elected leaders willing to fight for us with all their heart and soul. As a retiree living in the great state of Massachuttes, thank you for hearing me !
Senator Booker should be the senator minority leader. Chuck Schumer lshould step down and pass the torch . We need a stronger democratic leader to help us regain the senate in 2026 and after two days of listening to Cory Booker is definitely the one we need. Thanks Joy for everything you do.
Confessing here that I had not been very respectful of Senator Booker until now. My view of his place in the Senate was pretty much the same as my view of Republican Senator Tom Scott, both of whom were there as ‘tokens’.
Mr. Booker just changed all that and aside from the historical nature of his filibuster feat, he is now the moral voice of the Democratic Party, destined for high praise and leadership. The Party and the country need more Bookers and less Schumers. “The country is in crisis” and it’s time for all who believe in democracy to start some good trouble!
I've sent blistering letters to Senators in the wake of this disastrous War on America that some call a Trump 2.0 presidency. What Cory Booker's filibuster resoundingly showed me was, the Senate can't solve this dilemma without us, We, The People. We have to step up, step in and kick out the usurpers. All I can say of Cory Booker is, WoW! Thank you!
Thank you Joy. I watched Cory Booker and I was so inspired. I hope it doesn’t stop there. We must show fortitude and stop playing traditional politics with crooks!
Joy, I love your writing. It sounds just like you talking as you did on TV, but with no time constraints. I love that I can read you every day and not have to put up with thousands of medical ads. I especially like it when you are on other substacks and I can see you much more than on TV. I think substacks are truly your nitche. I would love to see hou on the Jim Acosta show. He is great and with your bubbliness, it would make my day. A day without JOY is a day without sunshine.
Please pass on to Cory Booker that although I have always liked him, He is THE MAN of the Senate. The shame those other Dems should be resounding through the halls. Cory thank you and I wish more than anything that you were my senator. I am ashamed of those that "represent" my state. Of course maybe they are a true representation of our uneducated citizens. You can't hide stupid- the chief felon is living (not for long I hope- hey don't chastize me for what we are wishing) proof.
Joy - yours is a critical voice. Please keep going. I am so disheartened and disgusted by the New York Times. I’ve not seen any mention of Senator Booker’s record breaking and profound speech. I will write the editorial board but I am ready to cancel my subscription. Thanks for your extraordinary work, Pat Cruz
Am I the only one who thinks Cory Booker is a phoney baloney? I love you Joy Reid but there is something about Booker’s taking AIPAC money ($872,000) that does not sit right with me.
Booker's recall of Thurmond and his vile racist legacy highlights the problem with the Democratic c party -- dominated by "centrists" -- i.e. NIMBY liberals and careerists who in the end always capitulate to protect their own interests.
He didn't mention this, but Joe Biden delivered a eulogy at Thurmond’s funeral in 2003. He told us that his relationship with Thurmond was an example of "reaching across the aisle." Biden stuck to that nonsense even into his dotage.
Anyone who actually goes after the powers that run the American oligarchy will get the same treatment Joy got from MSNBC corporate.
Joy was too clear about why we are stuck under a sociopathic, racist, sexist and anti-LGBTQ oligarchy.
So now she's here, on Substack -- where the REAL left lives: exiled like Chomsky, Hedges and anyone else who would tell the American population what's actually going on and how they are being used.
Thank you, Joy. A great summary of Senator Booker’s remarkable and incredibly moving…speech ? Not sure what to call it because it was so wide ranging and yet nailed the facts, the morality, the deep compassion he called for, for each and every aspect of American life, which we stand to lose if we don’t get going in some good trouble and soon.
I never liked Cory Booker until last night. He’s always seems superficial. Last night he showed his essence. I hope he will continue being real and genuine.

Love that we have leaders like Senator Booker and you too, Joy Reid! You are MAKING A DIFFERENCE! ❤️
