Joy, I really appreciate the fact that you bring history into your posts. It's what sets your posts apart from others analyzing the same news items. I hope you like this medium and continue writing.

Joy, I love you but I think you've gotten out over your skis a bit. Judge Boasberg has not found the regime in contempt - yet. He has found "probable cause" to hold the regime in contempt and defined a curative process for the regime to avoid a contempt citation.

Secondly, there is a mechanism to prosecute and enforce a criminal contempt citation absent the willingness of the DoJ to do so. The judge can appoint an "outside attorney" to prosecute the order.

Lastly, the process is in reference to the order to halt flights to El Salvador, not the case of the rendition of Abrego Garcia. That issue is under the purview of Judge Xinis.

If we still lived in "normal" times, these would apply. But we don't. They don't give a flying banana if they get a contempt citation and what "outside attorney" are they going to find that will actually uphold the law? McConnell stacked the courts to such a degree that they can keep appealing until they find a judge who rules in their favor.

Loved the history, Joy. “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”  George Santayana, The Life of Reason, 1905. Thanks

This sentence, without the modifier, is dead on: The cruelty is the point. Under the disguise of a red hat, cruelty rings out across the media landscape; in the news, in social media, and in actions seen every day by Americans reeling from the displays of hate for others.

Our government has become lawless, supported by sycophants hoping they will benefit from denial of the the law.

Who will take action, indeed? If our military, all of whom have taken an oath to serve the country and obey the Constitution is overrun by the codicil to obey their superiors, EVEN WHEN THEY KNOW THEIR SUPERIORS ARE BREAKING THE LAW, then what hope have we?

I cry for our country.

A delegation of Republican house members, including mine Rep. Kevin Hern (OK), traveled to CECOT, and took pictures to create propaganda to support the spokesperson’s lie that Garcia is guilty of human trafficking and that these are the type of people democrats want to bring back to the country. Politico did that report. Heather Cox Richardson mentioned it in her latest report.

Yes, your history lesson is so close to the present that we are like living in a shadow country of our same ugly ass selves. White supremacy never stops trying to control the effing universe. The maga people are out of their minds. Unfortunately, they have control right now. Your posts, yesterday’s too, are so amazing. You are brilliant and a national treasure.

I find it difficult to understand that US military force would comply with the Geneva convention, but you are not a members in the International Criminal Court (ICC). I would say that is close to a double standard. This has been the situation for many years. Also years before Trump. If I remember correctly Jack Smith the spesial procecutor for the Jan 6 insuraction was a judge in the ICC. I Guess he liked working for International justice and fighting war criminals. Regardles which country is affected. I would belive he want the US to become a member? I have not read or heard his argument for this double standard pertaining to USA. I urge all US citizens to get with their congressman or woman an demand US to become a ICC member nation ASAP.

WOW!!!!

Thanks for re-visiting all that painful true history. Sadly, today's lawless reality is worse than all that already happened because we obviously do not learn from the past and history is repeating itself!!!!

I'm flummoxed why there hasn't been a demand to recount the votes in the last election. How could a man about to be sentenced for felonies, who is an obvious extortionist and on the verge of collapsing our nation and the world economy, be allowed to continue in office? As he himself said, "it doesn't matter who votes, it's who counts the votes".

I have looked at the lynching post cards, and the white faces looks clear and easy to recognize for those that want to correct the terrible terror regime that existed all the way up into th 1950-60s. We all remember Emmet Till that was lunched and executed and mutelated in all the ways unthinkable possible. The killers was equitted of an all white jury, but later admitted the killing to a magazine some years later. All you people related to family in the old confedracy. Have you asked your older relatives what they did when confronted with a lynching. May be your grandgather or great great grandfather participated in a lynching. What would you do with that fact. Wouldn’t it be the correct way to condem what happened and make sure this race based eval never occurs any more. In order for me to belive your honesy you need to make your wanted correction official and public. Refer to a lynching and condem it in clear words. Than the white man can start to strigjten up your back and accept forgivnes for what your old folks did.

"And Trump, who apparently is surprised that due process is a thing, will go down in history as our most lawless president" The most astonishing thing is that he expects that whatever he says will be done. Where did he get this idea? Another indication of his break with reality, or lack of every having developed a connection with reality.

JOY: I heard last night that the STATE DEPARTMENT is being REORGANIZED into four zones and is going to CLOSE ALL THE DIPLOMATIC POSTS IN AFRICA????? COULD THIS BE TRUE?? CAN OUR state department ignore a whole continent of countries???? I lived there for ten years and there are so many reasons this is STUPID AND ILLEGITIMATE> if true, I am afraid it will be lost among the blizzard of crimes we are deluged with every day...
